About the recipe

Figos cheios do Algarve are sweets made from dried fruit, almonds and spices, with a distinctly regional character.

The recipe highlights the natural sweetness of the figs and Algarve almonds.

Ingredients

  • 20 soft dried figs
  • 150 g ground or chopped almonds
  • 80 g sugar
  • Cinnamon
  • Lemon zest
  • 1 tablespoon of honey
  • Sugar to finish

Method

  1. Open the figs without completely separating them.

  4. Close and press lightly.
  5. Warm briefly in a low oven.

Tips from Empório Portugal

  • Figs need to be soft.
  • Almonds can be chopped for texture.
  • A low oven gently enhances the aroma and firms the filling.
