About the recipe

Grilled limpets are a seafood petisco closely associated with Madeira.

Cooked in their shells, they are topped with garlic, butter and lemon in a simple, intense combination.

Ingredients

  • 24 cleaned limpets
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 60 g butter
  • 1 tablespoon of olive oil
  • Lemon juice
  • Chopped parsley
  • Pepper

Method

  1. Wash the limpets well.
  2. Mix butter, garlic, olive oil and pepper.
  3. Place a little of the seasoning on each limpet.
  4. Grill quickly until bubbling.
  5. Finish with lemon and parsley.
  6. Serve immediately.

  • Serve with bread to soak up the sauce.

Possible substitutions in Brazil

  • When limpets are unavailable, small scallops can be used as an adaptation.
