About the recipe

Broas de mel appear on many Portuguese tables, especially during festive seasons.

The honey and spices create a warm aroma, while the olive oil gives the dough personality.

Ingredients

  • 350 g of flour
  • 150 g of honey
  • 100 g brown sugar
  • 80 ml of mild olive oil
  • 2 eggs
  • Cinnamon and fennel
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • Nuts (optional)

Method

  1. Heat honey, sugar and olive oil until dissolved.
  2. Leave to cool slightly.
  3. Mix the flour, spices and baking powder.
  4. Add eggs and syrup.
  5. Shape the mixture into small broas.
  6. Bake until set.
